Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The West Liberty University baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Slippery Rock (Pa.) on Monday, downing The Rock by a 6-3 count in the opener before dropping a 12-0 decision in the second game.
    Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (13-12) got a strong mound effort from Jared Taylor in the lid-lifter as he blanked The Rock (19-8) on one hit through the first five innings en route to a complete-game win.
    West Liberty gave Taylor all the runs he needed with four runs in the top of the fourth and added insurance tallies in the fifth and sixth. Slippery Rock spoiled Taylor's shutout bid with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.
    Andrew Henry led an 11-hit Hilltopper barrage with three singles and an RBI. Matt Bradford drove in two runs with a double and a single while Jon-Michael Brunner added a double, single and RBI. Travis Denman had an RBI double.
    West Liberty never got the bats going against The Rock's Mike Dunn in the second game. Dunn carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Tim Mirandy led off the sixth with a double to break up the no-hit bid. It was too little, too late to come back against a Slippery Rock team that had bashed out 11 hits and scored in every inning but the third against a trip of WLU hurlers.
    The Hilltoppers' West Virginia Conference doubleheader at West Virginia Wesleyan, originally scheduled for Tuesday, has been moved to Wednesday at 1 p.m. due to poor field conditions in Buckhannon.
