SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd scored four runs with two out in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap a 3-3 tie and made those runs stand up in a 7-3 win against West Liberty in West Virginia Conference baseball action on Saturday.
The Rams (12-12, 8-3) took the lead for good on a two-out solo home run by Messina before a crucial error by the Hilltoppers (12-11, 10-4) opened the door for three more unearned runs before West Liberty could get the final out in what proved to be the decisive inning.
Scott Castilow had three singles to lead the Hilltoppers at the plate while Josh Nagel had two singles and drove in a run. Anthony Pierro chipped in with an RBI single and Taylor Snare picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
West Liberty heads to Buckhannon on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan.
