ATHENS, W.Va. – Josh Graham hurled West Liberty's first shutout of the season Tuesday afternoon as the Hilltoppers split a West Virginia Conference doubleheader with Concord at the Mountain Lions' Anderson Field.

Graham's mound gem lifted West Liberty to a 5-0 win in the opener but the visitors couldn't finish off the sweep in the second game, coming out on the short end of a 12-7 slugfest.

In the opener, Graham had three strikeouts and issued three walks while stranding eight Concord (18-23, 11-14) baserunners in the complete-game win.

Trent Chapman's two-out, two-run double in the top of the fifth gave Graham all the runs he needed. The Hilltoppers (13-30, 10-16) added an unearned tally in the top of the sixth and pushed two more runs across the plate in the seventh to complete the scoring.

Josh Nagel and Ryan Zelinski had three hits each for West Liberty while Chapman had a single and double. Zane Madden weighed in with an RBI double in the seventh.

Chapman led off the second game with a home run and the Hilltoppers went on to take a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the first.

That advantage proved short-lived as the first two Concord batters launched home runs and the hosts sent 13 men to the plate to open up an 8-2 lead.

Rudy Nagy belted a three-run homer in the fifth that trimmed the Mountain Lion lead to 10-6 but that was as close as West Liberty could get.

Jim Sams drove in three runs with a trio of singles while Madden had a single and double and Chapman singled to record his team-leading 15th multi-hit game of the season.

The Hilltoppers will host Ohio County rival Wheeling Jesuit Saturday and Sunday with back-to-back 1 p.m. twinbills at Kovalick Field.
