GREENSBURG, Pa. – Dillon Mangino's two-run home run in the top of the sixth lifted the West Liberty University baseball team to a 3-2 victory against regionally-ranked Seton Hill here Saturday in the second game of a West Virginia Conference doubleheader.

Coach Bo McConnaughy's Hilltoppers (12-30, 9-15) just missed sweeping the No. 3 Griffins (24-9, 18-2) as Seton Hill had to come from behind in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 3-2 verdict in Saturday's opener.

West Liberty turned the tables on the Griffins in the second game, clawing back from a 2-0 deficit to hand the defending WVIAC champions only their second league loss of the season.

Zane Madden got the ball rolling for the Hilltoppers in the top of the fifth when he singled home Mike Johnson with West Liberty's first run of the game, trimming the margin to 2-1 heading into the sixth.

Derek Daugherty opened the sixth frame by working a walk off Seton Hill starter Brad Schnelle. The fifth base on balls of the game for Schnelle brought Jon Murphy out of the Griffin bullpen for the second time on the afternoon.

Murphy had picked up the win in the first game by hurling a scoreless seventh inning but Mangino greeted Murphy with a two-run blast to give West Liberty a 3-2 lead.

That was all the room Jeff Welsh needed as the Hilltopper starter blanked Seton Hill over the final two innings to finish off the complete-game win. Welsh, now 4-5 on the season, struck out 8 SHU batters while walking just one and scattering 6 hits.

Trent Chapman had a pair of singles for West Liberty while Mangino had a single to go along with his clutch home run.

It was the Hilltoppers who saw a 2-0 lead fade away in the opener. The Griffins scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth to set the stage for their winning rally in the seventh.

Hilltopper starter Mike Reef carried a 2-0 lead and a 3-hit shutout into the sixth inning of the second game only to see the Griffins cut that lead in half when a runner scored from third on a wild pitch.

Seton Hill tied the game with one out in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and Josh Logan followed with an RBI single to end the game.

West Liberty had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by Daugherty and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Rudy Nagy. Madden led the Hilltoppers with a pair of singles.

The West Liberty baseball team hits the road on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Concord.
