FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Fairmont State finished off a weekend sweep of the West Liberty University baseball team here Sunday, winning the final two games by scores of 13-3 and 12-3.
The Falcons (10-21, 7-11) had opened the series with a pair of wins on Friday. Sunday's games were originally scheduled for Saturday but had been postponed due to rain.
The Hilltoppers (10-28, 7-13) proved to be their own worst enemy in Sunday's first game, as five West Liberty errors contributed to seven unearned runs for the hosts.
Josh Nagel led an 11-hit attack for the Hilltoppers with three singles while Rudy Nagy drove in a run with a double and single and Colin Miller had two hits and an RBI.
Fairmont scored six runs in the first inning of the nightcap and never looked back as the West Liberty offense was held to just four singles in the 7-inning affair.
Ryan Zelinski had two of the Hilltoppers' four hits and drove in a run.
West Liberty returns home to host Ohio Valley on Tuesday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Kovalick Field.
