GREENSBURG, Pa. – West Liberty University freshman Angela Johnson picked up her first career shutout on Saturday to help the Hilltoppers split a West Virginia Conference doubleheader at Seton Hill.

Johnson, a former Wheeling Park ace, hurled West Liberty (9-26, 4-8) to a 5-0 win in the second game after the host Griffins (12-13, 6-4) had pulled out a 5-4 victory in the opener.

In the second game, the freshman righthander scattered four hits while striking out two and issuing just one walk for her first shutout and first complete-game effort.

Johnson got plenty of offensive support as Courtney Loe, Kelsey Martin and Maggie Starr all launched solo home runs while Felicia Hulslander had two singles and an RBI. Katelyn Kumm and Leanna McMillen also had two hits each for Coach Herb Minch's visitors.

West Liberty came out on the short end of a see-saw affair in the opener. Seton Hill drew first blood with three runs in the bottom of the fifth only to see the Hilltoppers respond with four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead. The hosts rebounded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the nod.

Martin had an RBI single for West Liberty while Hulslander and Starr accounted for West Liberty's other base knocks.

The Hilltoppers remain on the road Sunday with a 2 p.m. twinbill at Glenville State.
