SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Host Shepherd snapped a 4-4 deadlock with a 2-out, 3-run triple in the bottom of the seventh Sunday afternoon and went on to claim an 8-5 victory in a scheduled 9-inning game at Fairfax Field.
The Hilltoppers (9-23, 6-9) had forged the 4-4 tie on
Rudy Nagy's RBI single in the top of the seventh but Shepherd (11-14, 7-11) loaded the bases with 2 out in the bottom of the frame against WLU starter
Jeff Welsh and Aaron Scoville greeted reliever
Matt Shyosky with a triple into the left-centerfield gap, clearing the bases and putting the hosts ahead to stay.
Scoville had 4 RBIs with a single and triple while Nate Minnich drove in a pair of Ram tallies with a home run and two singles.
The Hilltoppers travel to Buckhannon on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan.
