CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team pounded out 17 hits Monday afternoon en route to a 12-10 victory against the University of Charleston in a scheduled 9-inning game at Triana Field.
Coach Bo McConnaughy's Hilltoppers (4-9) obliterated an early 5-3 deficit by scoring 8 runs on 8 hits in a third-inning uprising.
Charleston closed the gap to 12-10 heading into the seventh inning but West Liberty reliever
Mike Reef came in to slam the door on the Golden Eagles (4-8), blanking the hosts without a hit over the final three frames to earn the save.
Freshman outfielder
Mike Johnson had another big day at the plate for WLU, raking the UC mound staff for three singles and a double, while
Andrew Henry drove in three runs with a pair of singles.
The Hilltoppers travel to Bluefield State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday.
