West Liberty University Athletics

Prior to WLU: Spent two seasons at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich., competing for head coach Matt Majkrzak. Schmitz was part of a pair of highly successful Wildcat teams that combined for a 50-17 record, captured the 2025 GLIAC Tournament Championship and the 2026 GLIAC regular-season title, and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament in both seasons. Northern Michigan finished 22-10 and earned an NCAA Tournament berth in 2024-25 before posting a 28-7 record and advancing to the NCAA Round of 32 in 2025-26. During the 2025-26 season, Schmitz appeared in games while averaging 1.7 points, 1.2 rebounds and shooting 52.9 percent from the field.

High School: Played at Galesville-Ettrick-Trempealeau (G-E-T) High School in Galesville, Wis., under head coach Jared McCutchen. A four-year letterwinner, four-year starter and three-year team captain, Schmitz established himself as one of the top players in Wisconsin high school basketball. He was a three-time Coulee Conference Player of the Year (2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24), a four-time First-Team All-Conference selection and a three-time All-State honoree. Schmitz helped lead the Red Hawks to back-to-back regional championships and a trip to the sectional finals as a senior after advancing to the sectional semifinals during his junior season. He averaged 17.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game as a freshman before posting 30.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore. As a junior, he averaged 29.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest, and capped his prep career by averaging 30.2 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game as a senior.

Off the Court: Cody is the son of Ken and Heidi Schmitz. He has three sisters, Molly (25), Cassy (24) and Kylie (22). He plans to major in Financial Planning at West Liberty University.
