Mason Werner completed his fourth season with the Hilltopper program as a defensive secondary coach, specializing in the nickelback position. Prior to his current role with Ohio County Schools, Werner served in an administration role as a Graduate Program Coordinator in West Liberty University’s Office of Graduate Studies. He still currently serves as an Adjunct Professor in the College of Education and Human Performance.
A former defensive Graduate Assistant with the West Liberty football team, Werner returned to the Hilltopper program after spending two seasons at Robert Morris University, where he worked as a Football Data Analyst. During his time at RMU, the Colonials achieved a 7-5 record in 2019, marking their first winning season in nearly a decade. His earlier coaching experiences at West Liberty included roles as a defensive line coach, recruiting assistant, academic supervisor, and data analyst.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Werner has also coached at Brooke High School and his alma mater of Wheeling Central Catholic High School, where he has won multiple state championships as a player and as a coach. After completion of his graduate assistantship, Werner also received an internship at the University of South Florida working with their Student Athlete Enhancement program.Â
A native of Wheeling, W.Va. and two time graduate of West Liberty University, Werner holds a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education and a master's degree in Education with a Sports Leadership and Coaching concentration.Â
Mason and his wife, Kristen, are the proud parents of Caroline Werner.
