Curtis McGhee

Former NCAA Division I standout Curt McGhee begins his 13th season working with the WLU defense and will once again be working in the secondary with the cornerbacks. McGhee has developed numerous All-MEC standouts during his time with the Black and Gold. Elijah Hadley is McGhee’s latest success story, having earned All-MEC laurels as a true freshman cornerback last fall. All-Region DBs Logan Deri and Josh Ojo capped impressive careers in 2019 as did safety Brandon Morrison – the first two-time NCAA D2 Academic All-American in program history.
McGhee enjoyed a highly-productive college career at Pitt as a four-year letterman (1993-97) in the defensive secondary for head coaches Johnny Majors and Walt Harris. He was a Panther team captain during his senior season and his four-year total of 244 tackles still ranks among the top 25 all-time at Pitt.
McGhee is an Ohio Valley native, having been a multi-sport standout during his high school days at Wheeling (W.Va.) Central Catholic High School. He entered the high school coaching ranks immediately after graduating from Pitt and logged more than a decade working on football staffs at Bridgeport (Ohio), Wheeling Central and Bellaire (Ohio) High Schools before making his college coaching debut at West Liberty.
Curtis has two children, a son, Curtis Casbell McGhee III who is a sophomore defensive back at Brown University, and a daughter, Mischa Shae-Marie McGhee.
