Brandon Tate

    Brandon Tate kicks off his third season on the Hilltopper football staff this fall. With nearly a decade of playing and coaching experience under his belt, the former NCAA Division I tight end will be working with West Liberty’s wide receivers and tight ends.
    Tate came to the hilltop after spending the 2018 season as a recruiting specialist on Mississippi State’s Outback Bowl squad. Tate was involved in all aspects of MSU’s recruiting efforts, assisting with initial evaluations, coordinating video presentations by position for the coaching staff, managing the MSU recruiting board and preparing weekly reports.
    As a player, Tate received numerous academic honors during three years as a tight end at West Virginia University (2004-07). He was a member of three New Year’s Day bowl championship teams (Gator, Sugar and Fiesta) and earned multiple berths on the Athletic Directors’ Honor Roll as well as an NCAA Division I Scholar-Athlete Award. Tate closed out his college career by lettering at Alcorn State in 2008.
    He began his coaching career as a Graduate Assistant with the Mountaineers in 2009 and also served as a football GA at Marshall in 2010 before moving into the high school ranks as head coach and guidance counselor at Tazewell (Va.) High School. Tate returned to the Mountain State in 2012 as an assistant coach and guidance counselor at Morgantown High School before rejoining the Marshall football program as an Athletic Academic Counselor in 2017.
    Tate is a 2007 graduate of West Virginia University with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and also holds a master’s degree in Secondary Education and Guidance Counseling from Alcorn State.
    Brandon and his wife, Rebecca, have four children: Braylon, Braxton and twins Kaden and Kenna.
