West Liberty University officially appointed Brad Forshey as Director of Athletics on May 9, 2024, recognizing his impactful leadership during his interim tenure that began in fall 2023. A dedicated and respected member of the Hilltopper athletic community, Forshey brings over two decades of experience and a student-first philosophy to the role, positioning WLU Athletics for a strong and sustainable future.
Forshey has been a key figure in the department’s growth, most recently serving as Assistant Athletic Director and Director of NCAA Compliance. Before transitioning to athletic administration, Forshey spent 14 seasons on the Hilltoppers’ football coaching staff under Head Coach Roger Waialae. As Associate Head Coach, Defensive Line Coach, and Director of Football Operations, he developed one of the region’s most respected defensive units. During his coaching career, 23 of his players earned All-Conference recognition, with three receiving All-Region honors. His expertise has been featured in national publications including American Football Monthly and the AFCA Technical Manual.
A native of West Virginia, Forshey began his athletic journey as an All-Conference lineman and team captain at Marietta College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in history. He launched his coaching career at his alma mater, Williamstown High School, before joining the collegiate ranks at West Liberty.
As Director of Athletics, Forshey oversees 19 intercollegiate sports programs, with a focus on academic achievement, competitive excellence, and deepening connections across campus, the local community, and WLU alumni. He remains committed to fostering a culture rooted in integrity, equity, and student-athlete development.
Brad Forshey lives in Beech Bottom, West Virginia, with his wife, Marissa, and their son, Hunter Cole.
