Anthony Kellar

Anthony Kellar joins the West Liberty University football staff as Defensive Coordinator, bringing a proven track record of defensive excellence, special teams success, and player development at the Division II level.

Kellar comes to West Liberty from the University of Findlay, where he served as Linebackers Coach and Special Teams Coordinator beginning in January 2025. Under his guidance, the Oilers fielded one of the nation’s elite defenses, finishing No. 2 nationally in run defense and No. 3 in total defense. He coached GMAC Defensive Player of the Year Sam Weirauch and First Team All-GMAC linebacker Kevin Henderson, continuing his reputation for developing high-impact defensive talent.

In his first season coordinating special teams at Findlay, Kellar engineered dramatic unit-wide improvements. The kickoff coverage unit climbed from 123rd to 25th nationally (first in the GMAC), punt coverage improved from 102nd to 17th nationally (first in the conference), and kickoff return advanced from 69th to 19th nationally (second in the GMAC). The punt return unit also recorded three blocked punts during the 2025 season. In addition to his on-field responsibilities, Kellar served as the program’s Travel Coordinator.

Prior to Findlay, Kellar spent five seasons at Glenville State University (2021–25) as Linebackers Coach and later Special Teams Coordinator. During his tenure, he developed five linebackers and outside linebackers to All-MEC honors, including JaMair Diaz, the 2024 MEC Defensive Player of the Year. After being promoted to special teams coordinator in spring 2024, Glenville State finished No. 1 nationally in kickoff coverage and No. 4 in punt coverage. Kellar also handled recruiting responsibilities in Northern Virginia and West Virginia, designed and implemented the program’s offseason strength plan in 2022, and supervised all student managers and film operations.

Kellar began his coaching career at Lincoln High School in Shinnston, W.Va., where he worked with linebackers and wide receivers during the 2020 season, contributing to offensive and defensive game planning while overseeing special teams units and in-season training programs.

A native of West Virginia, Kellar is a graduate of West Virginia University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History in December 2020 with a 3.65 GPA. He also served as a student assistant with the Mountaineers from 2018–20, assisting with daily football operations and equipment management.
