BELLE VERNON, Pa. — The West Liberty University women's golf team opened the 2026-27 season Thursday at the Vulcan Invitational, finishing 14th at Cedarbrook Golf Course.

The Hilltoppers posted a two-round team score of 257-over par, carding rounds of 129 and 128. The scheduled third round was canceled, leaving the tournament as a 36-hole event.

Samantha Spearman paced the Hilltoppers individually, finishing tied for 48th at 26-over par. Spearman opened with a 21-over 92 before improving to a 5-over 76 in the second round.

Jessica Mix followed in 71st place at 40-over par after rounds of 26-over 97 and 14-over 85. Hannah Shepherd finished tied for 76th at 47-over par, carding rounds of 32-over 103 and 15-over 86.

Morgan Messner finished 78th at 53-over par, while Brooke Perri placed 85th at 69-over par.

West Chester claimed the team title at 43-over par, followed by Jefferson (+48) and Adelphi (+69).

The Hilltoppers return to action Sept. 9-10 at the UC Invitational, hosted by the University of Charleston at Edgewood Country Club in Charleston, W.Va.
