WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's golf team heads to Stonewall Resort this weekend for the 2026 Mountain East Conference Women's Golf Championship, scheduled for Sunday through Tuesday at the Arnold Palmer Signature Course in Roanoke, West Virginia.
The three-day championship features 54 holes of stroke play, with the opening round set for Sunday, Oct. 11, followed by the second round Monday and the final round Tuesday. The Hilltoppers will look to put together three consistent rounds while navigating the challenges of one of the conference's biggest events of the fall season.
West Liberty head coach Fred Fitzsimmons said the tournaments leading up to the championship have helped his young team become more comfortable competing against collegiate competition while learning to handle difficult playing conditions.
"The tournaments leading up to the MEC have helped us get more comfortable competing, being we're a young team," Fitzsimmons said. "It's basically rained at every event, so we've had to embrace all the elements also."
At Stonewall Resort, patience and course management will be especially important as the Hilltoppers look to maintain consistency throughout the 54-hole event.
"The biggest challenges of Stonewall will be staying patient and managing our individual games well," Fitzsimmons said. "Staying focused and keeping the ball in the right spots will be key."
The MEC Women's Golf Championship runs through Tuesday.
