FAIRMONT, W.Va. — West Liberty University freshman defensive back Luca Neal has been named the Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Neal, a freshman from Avonworth, Pa., anchored the Hilltoppers' defensive effort in their season-opening matchup against Walsh on Aug. 27.

The defensive back recorded a team-high 10 total tackles, including eight solo stops and two assists. Neal also made an impact behind the line of scrimmage with two tackles for loss and forced a fumble.

Neal and the Hilltoppers return to action this Saturday with a road game at Seton Hill.
