WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – West Liberty University Athletics will proudly honor the men and women who serve our communities and country during Military & First Responder Appreciation Night on Thursday, August 27 at 7 p.m., as the Hilltoppers kick off the 2026 season with their home football opener at West Family Stadium.

The special evening will recognize active-duty and veteran members of the United States Armed Forces, as well as local police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and other first responders for their service and commitment to the community. Military members, veterans and first responders are invited to join the Hilltopper community as honored guests for the evening.

"West Liberty Athletics is incredibly proud to be part of this community, and this night gives us an opportunity to recognize people who dedicate so much of their lives to serving others," said West Liberty University Director of Athletics Brad Forshey. "Our military members and first responders answer the call every day, often without recognition or expectation of anything in return. We want them to know how much their service, sacrifice and commitment are appreciated here on the Hilltop."

The event is part of West Liberty Athletics' continued commitment to strengthening the connection between Hilltopper student-athletes and the communities they represent. Local police, fire and emergency service departments are encouraged to share the invitation with their members and attend together. Military members and veterans throughout the Ohio Valley are also encouraged to participate in the evening.

"Athletics has a unique ability to bring people together, and we want to use that platform for something bigger than the game itself," Forshey said. "When our teams compete, we talk a lot about service, sacrifice and being part of something larger than yourself. Those words carry a much deeper meaning for the men and women we will honor on August 27. It will be our privilege to have them with us and simply say, 'thank you.'"
