BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Liberty University finished fifth in the final 2025-26 Mountain East Conference Commissioner's Cup standings, announced recently by the conference office.
The Hilltoppers compiled 108 points for an all-sports rating of .5538 while competing in 20 conference-sponsored sports. West Liberty finished behind champion University of Charleston, runner-up Glenville State, third-place Frostburg State and fourth-place Fairmont State in the final standings.
The Mountain East Conference Commissioner's Cup recognizes overall athletic excellence among its member institutions. The standings are determined using an "all-sports rating," which awards points based on a school's regular-season finish in each conference-sponsored sport, with bonus points awarded to conference tournament champions in applicable sports. The final rating reflects the percentage of points earned against the total points available based on the number of sports sponsored by each institution.
West Liberty enjoyed another successful year across its athletic programs. The Hilltoppers captured the Mountain East Conference Wrestling Championship for the fourth time in program history and first since 2023, while the men's basketball team claimed the MEC regular-season title and advanced to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional.
The Hilltoppers also saw continued success from several other programs throughout the 2025-26 campaign. The men's golf team qualified for NCAA Atlantic/East Regional competition, the softball team posted another 30-win season and advanced to the MEC Tournament championship game, and the women's wrestling program sent five student-athletes to the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships in just its second varsity season.
Overall, the MEC conducted championships in 23 sports during the 2025-26 academic year.
The University of Charleston claimed its ninth consecutive Commissioner's Cup title and 11th overall since the league began competition in 2013-14. The Golden Eagles posted an all-sports rating of .9784946237 after winning or sharing conference championships in football, men's cross country, men's soccer, men's golf, women's golf, men's and women's indoor track & field, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's outdoor track & field, while also capturing tournament titles in women's basketball and baseball.
