WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team is headed back to the postseason, earning the No. 3 seed out of the North Division for the 2026 Mountain East Conference Softball Championship.
The appearance marks the seventh consecutive trip to the MEC Tournament for the Hilltoppers and the eighth overall in program history, continuing a stretch of consistency for the program.
West Liberty (22-29, 14-14 MEC) will open tournament play on Wednesday, May 6, against South Division No. 2 seed Glenville State. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.
The Hilltoppers enter the tournament following a split in their final regular season doubleheader at Salem, closing out the year with momentum as they prepare for postseason play.
Fairmont State claimed the North Division title, followed by Frostburg State in the No. 2 spot, while West Liberty secured the third seed. Davis & Elkins rounded out the North Division field. In the South, Charleston and Glenville State shared the regular season title, with Concord and West Virginia State also qualifying.
The eight-team, double-elimination tournament will run May 6–9, with games played across two fields at the Moyer Sports Complex. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, with a potential if-necessary game to follow.
West Liberty will look to make a deep run in Salem as it continues its streak of postseason appearances and builds on a season of growth and resilience.
