Hilltoppers Sweep The Bobcats

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team delivered a dominant performance Friday afternoon, sweeping a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at West Virginia Wesleyan with a 6-4 extra-inning victory in game one followed by an 11-3 win in game two.

The Hilltoppers showed both power at the plate and resilience in the circle, improving their momentum with a complete team effort across both contests.

Game 1: West Liberty 6, West Virginia Wesleyan 4 (8 innings)

West Liberty struck early with a solo home run from Kadence Pettit in the second inning before extending the lead in the third on a two-run blast from Jaden Conrad, scoring Jillian Morr to make it 3-0.

The Hilltoppers added another run in the fourth when Shelby Harris delivered an RBI double, pushing the lead to 4-0.

West Virginia Wesleyan battled back in the middle innings, plating a run in the fourth before tying the game in the sixth with a pair of home runs to even the score at 4-4.

After a scoreless seventh forced extra innings, West Liberty responded in the eighth. Sara Simon came through with an RBI single to give the Hilltoppers the lead, and Annaliese Davis followed with an RBI groundout to provide an insurance run.

Davis was strong in relief, earning the win after tossing 2.2 scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out one. Pettit started the game, going 5.1 innings with four runs allowed.

Offensively, West Liberty totaled eight hits, with Conrad and Pettit each homering while Simon, Harris, and Isabella McKee contributed key hits.

Game 2: West Liberty 11, West Virginia Wesleyan 3

The Hilltoppers carried that momentum into game two, exploding for 11 runs on 17 hits in a dominant offensive showing.

West Liberty jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning behind an RBI double from Morr and another two-run home run from Conrad.

After Wesleyan cut the deficit to 3-2 in the second, the Hilltoppers broke the game open in the fourth inning with four runs. Morr added an RBI single, McKee drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, and Rylee Mangold capped the inning with a two-RBI hit.

West Liberty continued to add on in the sixth with three more runs, highlighted by RBI hits from Ashleigh Heiderscheit and Caroline Woody.

Morr led the offensive attack with a 2-for-3 performance, scoring three runs and driving in two, while Woody went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Tucker added two hits and scored twice, and Conrad continued her strong day with two RBIs.

In the circle, Heiderscheit earned the win, tossing 5.1 innings while allowing three runs and striking out five. Mangold closed the game with 1.2 scoreless innings.

The Hilltoppers visit Davis & Elkins Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
