Hilltoppers Pick Up Two Singles Wins in Loss to Milligan

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The West Liberty University women's tennis team wrapped up another match on its spring break trip Sunday morning, falling to Milligan University, 5-2, at Hilton Head Island.

Milligan secured the early momentum by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Sanchita Dabas and Maria Martirosyan battled but fell 6-4 to Tara Stewart and Madison Berry. The Hilltoppers also dropped matches at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 doubles by 6-4 and 6-3 scores.

West Liberty responded in singles play with a pair of victories.

At No. 1 singles, Maria Martirosyan delivered a strong performance, defeating Lee Anne Endler in straight sets 6-4, 6-0.

The Hilltoppers also earned a win at No. 2 singles, where Ana Sanchez rallied after dropping the first set to defeat Melissa Duarte, 5-7, 7-5, 10-5.

Milligan secured the remaining singles matches at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 to clinch the team victory.

West Liberty continues its spring break schedule in Hilton Head later this week with additional matches against Lawrence Technological University on Wednesday and Albany State on Thursday.
