West Liberty, W.Va. - West Liberty University senior right-handed pitcher John Thompson earns Hilltopper of the Week honors after delivering another dominant outing on the mound, leading the Hilltoppers to victory with his team-leading fourth complete game of the season.
The Hopedale, Ohio native was in complete control from the start, tossing a seven-inning complete game while allowing just three hits and one earned run. Thompson struck out five and issued only two walks across 103 pitches, consistently attacking the zone and keeping opposing hitters off balance.
Despite a pair of hit batters and a balk, Thompson worked efficiently throughout the game, inducing nine groundouts and limiting hard contact. His ability to pitch deep into the game once again proved invaluable, as he faced just 28 batters in the complete-game effort.
Now 4-2 on the season, Thompson continues to anchor the Hilltoppers' pitching staff with his durability and consistency. His fourth complete game not only leads the team but underscores his role as a workhorse and a key piece of West Liberty's success this spring.
