West Liberty Women’s Tennis Tops Albany State, 5-2

HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The West Liberty University women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 victory over Albany State on Wednesday at Cordillo Courts, highlighted by a strong performance in doubles play and  convincing singles wins.

The Hilltoppers secured the doubles point by taking two of the three matches. After Albany State claimed the No. 1 doubles match with a 6-2 win over Ana Sanchez and Courtney Curnutte, West Liberty responded at the No. 2 spot as Maria Martirosyan and Sanchita Dabas battled to a 7-6 victory against Brooklyn Bowen and Le'Ashia Miller.

The Hilltoppers then sealed the point at No. 3 doubles when Gabrielle Pasco and Elle Monaco were awarded a win by forfeit.

West Liberty carried that momentum into singles play, winning three of the contested matches to secure the team victory.

At No. 3 singles, Sanchita Dabas delivered a solid performance, defeating Ameerah Mesidor 6-2, 6-3. Courtney Curnutte was dominant at No. 4 singles, posting a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Le'Ashia Miller, while Gabrielle Pasco followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Autumn Bryant at the No. 5 position.

Albany State earned its two points at the top of the lineup. Monique Gundrum defeated Maria Martirosyan 6-3, 2-6, 3-0 at No. 1 singles, while Brooklyn Bowen topped Ana Sanchez 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.

The Hilltoppers also picked up a point at No. 6 singles as Elle Monaco was awarded a win by forfeit.

With the victory, West Liberty closed the match with a 5-2 team score. The Hilltoppers will visit Bluefield State Friday.
