Hilltoppers Set for MEC Tournament Opener Wednesday at WesBanco Arena

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's basketball team has learned its postseason path following the conclusion of the Mountain East Conference regular season, as seeds and pairings were finalized for the 2026 MEC Women's Basketball Tournament presented by The Health Plan.

The five-day tournament will be held at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, with the top 10 teams in the final conference standings qualifying for postseason play. The top six seeds receive first-round byes, while action begins Wednesday, March 4.

West Liberty (10-18, 6-14 MEC) earned the No. 9 seed and will open tournament play in a first-round matchup against No. 8 seed West Virginia State on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the quarterfinal round to face top-seeded Glenville State on Thursday evening.

Glenville State enters the tournament as the MEC regular season champion and No. 1 seed after posting a 22-5 overall record and a 16-4 mark in league play. West Virginia Wesleyan claimed the No. 2 seed, followed by Charleston at No. 3 and Concord at No. 4. Fairmont State, last season's tournament champion, is the No. 5 seed, while Wheeling rounds out the top six.

Frostburg State is the No. 7 seed, followed by West Virginia State at No. 8, West Liberty at No. 9, and Point Park at No. 10.

The Hilltoppers' opening-round contest is one of two games scheduled for Wednesday, which begin at noon with Frostburg State facing Point Park. Quarterfinal action is set for Thursday, March 5, followed by semifinal games on Saturday, March 7. The MEC Championship game will be played Sunday, March 8, at 1 p.m.
