BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — After capturing the 2025-26 Mountain East Conference regular season championship, the West Liberty University men's basketball team has earned the No. 1 overall seed for the upcoming MEC Tournament presented by The Health Plan.
The five-day tournament will take place Wednesday, March 4 through Sunday, March 8 inside WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.
West Liberty (24-4, 18-2 MEC) enters postseason play as the league's top seed following a dominant conference campaign. The Hilltoppers closed the regular season winning 14 of their final 15 games and lead the MEC in scoring at 99.3 points per game.
As one of the top six seeds, West Liberty receives a first-round bye and will open tournament play in the quarterfinal round on Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m. The Hilltoppers will face the winner of Wednesday night's matchup between No. 8 seed Davis & Elkins and No. 9 seed Point Park.
Fairmont State (24-4, 17-3 MEC) secured the No. 2 seed and will play at noon on Friday against the winner of No. 7 Frostburg State and No. 10 West Virginia State. Wheeling (19-8, 14-6 MEC) claimed the No. 3 seed and will meet No. 6 Concord at 2:30 p.m., while No. 4 Charleston faces No. 5 Glenville State in the 8:30 p.m. quarterfinal.
The tournament opens Wednesday with first-round contests featuring Frostburg State vs. West Virginia State at 6 p.m., followed by Davis & Elkins vs. Point Park at 8:30 p.m.
Semifinal action is scheduled for Saturday, March 7 at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., with the MEC Championship set for Sunday, March 8 at 4 p.m.
