WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University softball team will serve as co-host of The Highlands Classic this weekend at the Highlands Sports Complex, welcoming a strong regional field for three days of high-level Division II competition.
Joining the Hilltoppers in the event are No. 16 UIndy, IUP, Findlay, Lake Erie, and Wheeling.
All games will be played at the Highlands Sports Complex, with live stats and live video available for every matchup.
"We are really excited to host this tournament, not only for us to get some high-quality games in, but to bring some really good DII softball to the Ohio Valley," said head coach Sara Pelegreen.
Pelegreen also emphasized the personal connection behind the event.
"It's also special to host this with Wheeling's coach Mallory Chapman because she is one of my former players, and I know it's important to both of us to bring good softball to the Ohio Valley for the young girls who will have the opportunity to come watch," Pelegreen said. "Mallory and I talked about hosting this tournament three years ago, and it's now coming to fruition. And we are so grateful for the opposing coaches who are willing to be a part of it."

The Hilltoppers are slated to play four games across the three-day event, facing a mix of GLVC and PSAC competition as they continue to build momentum early in the season.
