Hilltoppers Visit West Virginia State Sunday

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — West Liberty returns to the road Sunday afternoon for a Mountain East Conference matchup at West Virginia State, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. at Dickerson Stadium in Institute, W.Va.

The Hilltoppers enter the weekend at 2-7-1 overall and 2-6 in MEC play following a 3-2 setback against Glenville State on Wednesday at the West Family Athletic Complex. West Liberty has split its last two matches, defeating Shawnee State, 2-0, on Sept. 27 before falling to the Pioneers three days later.

West Virginia State comes into Sunday's match at 3-3-4 overall and 3-2-3 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets also dropped a 2-1 decision in their most recent outing, falling at Point Park on Wednesday.

Freshman Kylie Collins has provided the bulk of West Liberty's offensive production this season. Collins leads the Hilltoppers with five goals and 10 points through 10 matches, while also pacing the team with 16 shots and 10 shots on goal. She has scored one game-winning goal.

Collins is tied for second in the MEC in goals entering the weekend and is sixth in the conference in points with 10.

West Liberty has scored six goals through 10 matches and is averaging 6.8 shots per game. The Hilltoppers have put 32 of their 68 shots on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Kaisa Vale has started nine matches for West Liberty. Vale enters Sunday's contest with 47 saves, a .746 save percentage and a 1.78 goals-against average. She has recorded three shutouts this season.

West Virginia State ranks third in the MEC in scoring offense, averaging 1.80 goals per game. The Yellow Jackets have scored 18 goals on 149 shots and have put 61 shots on target.

Leila Karam leads the Yellow Jackets with five goals, three assists and 13 points. She has also registered 23 shots and nine shots on goal.

Maria Alejandra Hernandez Diaz has added three goals and an assist for seven points, while Rachel Okoro and Cali Questel have two goals apiece.

West Virginia State has received a strong season from goalkeeper Celina Seggelmann, who has started all 10 matches. Seggelmann has a 1.54 goals-against average with 27 saves and a .643 save percentage.

The Yellow Jackets have outshot their opponents 149-104 this season and average 14.9 shots per match compared with 10.4 for their opponents.

West Liberty currently sits fifth in the MEC North Division with six conference points, while West Virginia State is third in the South Division with 12 points.

West Liberty returns home Wednesday to host Concord at 7:30 p.m.
