West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's basketball team continues Mountain East Conference play on Saturday with a 2 p.m. road matchup at Davis & Elkins inside the McDonnell Center.
The Hilltoppers enter the contest at 4–6 overall and 1–2 in MEC action, ranking fourth in the conference in scoring at 74.0 points per game. West Liberty has shown balance offensively, shooting 43.6 percent from the field while averaging 7.6 three-pointers per contest.
West Liberty has been most effective when setting the tempo and creating offense off defensive pressure. The Hilltoppers average 7.6 steals per game and score nearly 18 points per game off opponent turnovers, while also holding a positive turnover margin on the season. Among their four wins are victories over Edinboro, Ursuline, Salem (W.Va.), and Point Park, including an 88-point performance in the season opener and a 71–50 defensive effort against Salem.
Anna Lucarelli leads the Hilltoppers at 17.9 points per game, shooting 45.0 percent from the floor. Ana-Isabel Andersson adds 12.3 points per game and provides consistent perimeter scoring, while Jameka Brungard has been a steady presence inside, averaging 9.9 points and a team-best 7.1 rebounds per contest while shooting better than 60 percent from the field. Halley Smith, Katie Lucarelli, and Dria Parker continue to provide depth and versatility across the lineup.
Davis & Elkins enters Saturday's matchup at 1–11 overall and 0–4 in MEC play. The Senators are averaging 52.9 points per game and have faced one of the league's most challenging early schedules. Jahniya Marion leads D&E offensively at 13.7 points per game, with Kaitlyn Parker (8.6 ppg) and Kylie Morris (7.5 ppg) also contributing on the scoring end.
West Liberty has enjoyed considerable success in the recent series, winning eight of the last nine meetings against Davis & Elkins. The Hilltoppers swept the 2024–25 season series, earning a 93–60 victory at home on Dec. 7 before closing the regular season with a 76–58 road win in Elkins on Feb. 5.
West Liberty has won five straight games in the series overall and has topped the 80-point mark in six of the last eight matchups, including a 96–67 road win during the 2023–24 campaign.
