Sissonville, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's golf team wrapped up the opening round of the Charleston Invitational Monday at Edgewood Country Club, battling through a tough course setup against one of the strongest regional fields they'll face this fall.
Sara Simon led the Hilltoppers with a steady round of 80 (+9), placing her inside the top half of the 90-player leaderboard heading into Tuesday's final round.
Hannah Shepherd carded a 99 (+28), Serenidy Wertz (120, +49) and Brooke Perri (125, +54) rounded out the WLU lineup.
On the team leaderboard, Charleston (-1, Lucia Martin) and Gannon (+2, Anastasia Lopes) set the early pace at the top, while Mount Olive (+19), Glenville State (+21), and UNC Pembroke (+26) filled out the top five.
West Liberty returns to the course Tuesday morning for the final round of the 36-hole tournament as the Hilltoppers look to gain ground on the leaderboard.
