ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio – The West Liberty University women's golf team opened its 2025 fall season on Thursday with the first round of the Wheeling University Fall Invitational at Belmont Hills Country Club.
The Hilltoppers closed the day in seventh place at +151 in the nine-team field. Glenville State leads after the opening round at +36, with Millersville (+62) and California (Pa.) (+66) sitting second and third, respectively.
Sara Simon paced West Liberty with a steady round of 87 (+15), good for 14th place on the individual leaderboard. Hannah Shepherd followed with a 103 (+31), while Brooke Perri carded a 123 (+51) in her collegiate debut. Serenidy Wertz rounded out the Hilltoppers' Day One scores with a 126 (+54).
Individually, Fairmont State's Marra Johnson holds the overnight lead after a +4 (75), with Bluefield State's Candela Lopez Prino just one shot back at +5. A four-way tie at +8 includes Glenville State's Abby Ankenman and Elaina Seeley, Wheeling's Ella Keffer, and Glenville's Olivia Dickson.
The Hilltoppers will look to climb the leaderboard when the final 18 holes tee off Friday morning at Belmont Hills.
