FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's golf team opened play at the Senator Larry Edgell Invitational on Monday, finishing sixth after the opening round at Green Hills Country Club.

The Hilltoppers posted a team score of +153 (634) to sit ahead of West Virginia Wesleyan going into the final round. Charleston (+25) leads the field, followed by Glenville State (+33) and Charleston's "B" team (+56) to round out the top three.

For West Liberty, Sara Simon paced the team with a first-round 87 (+17), highlighted by a steady front nine of 43. Hannah Shepherd followed with a 95 (+25), while Brooke Perri carded a 122 (+52). Reese Ward rounded out the scoring with a 129 (+59).

Individually, Glenville State's Elaina Seeley (+2) leads the tournament after 18 holes, two shots clear of Charleston's Lucia Martin (+4).

The Senator Larry Edgell Invitational, hosted by Fairmont State University, concludes Tuesday with the final round at Green Hills Country Club.
