WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — Gannon University swept West Liberty in straight sets, 25-23, 25-13, 25-18, in the final match of the West Liberty Invite on Saturday at the ASRC. The Golden Knights' serving pressure, highlighted by 10 aces, proved to be the difference.
West Liberty battled in a tight opening set, pulling within two points late before falling 25-23. Ashley Cudnik, Liv McAtee, and Grace Hill sparked the Hilltoppers' attack, while Adrienne Staib chipped in key points. Service aces from Cudnik and Amira DuPree helped keep the set close, but Gannon's Carlee Webber and Lauren Atwell delivered late kills to seal the frame.
The Golden Knights carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead behind two aces from Bengisu Arslan. Despite three kills from Cudnik, Gannon extended its advantage with steady play at the net and capitalized on West Liberty errors to pull away, 25-13.
In the third set, the Hilltoppers got contributions from Kyia White, Erin Blackston, and Cudnik, who combined for six kills, along with a service ace from Bella Dart. However, Gannon's balanced attack and five more aces secured a 25-18 win and the sweep.
