FROSTBURG, Md. — Frostburg St. defeated West Liberty University 4-1 on Wednesday at Bobcat Stadium. The Bobcats took control early with three first-half goals, securing the lead before halftime. West Liberty managed a goal in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome Frostburg St.'s strong performance.
The first half began with Frostburg St. quickly taking control, as Dominic Good scored in the 11th minute, followed by a goal from Carlos Quintero Rivas in the 13th minute, assisted by Mason Salvadge. The home team extended their lead to 3-0 when Good found the net again in the 18th minute, with Quintero Rivas providing the assist. The Hilltoppers' Travis Scandalis and E.J. Sablan both had shots saved, while Shai'ya Henry made a crucial save in the 42nd minute to keep the scoreline from widening further.
The second half commenced with Frostburg St. extending their lead as Jason Guevara scored in the 47th minute. The visitors' efforts were finally rewarded when Sablan found the back of the net in the 76th minute, narrowing the gap to 4-1. Despite several shots on goal, including attempts by Alex Watt and Gustaf Bellander, West Liberty could not further dent the deficit before the end of the match.
Sablan scored one goal and recorded four shots, including three on goal, to lead West Liberty's offensive efforts. Bellander managed one shot on goal out of his single attempt, contributing to the team's attacking play. Henry, in goal, made one save while facing ten shots, conceding four goals in a full 90 minutes of play.
Looking ahead, the Hilltoppers will host Concord Sunday at 1 p.m. at the West Family Athletic Complex.
