A trailblazer for women's athletics at West Liberty, Dr. Rhonda Noble made her mark as a three-sport student-athlete, championship-winning coach, and beloved professor. On the court and field, she was a fierce competitor who helped elevate Hilltopper women's athletics during the early years of Title IX, earning All-WVIAC honors in both volleyball and softball while also contributing in basketball. After graduating in 1983, she returned to her alma mater as head volleyball coach and assistant softball coach, where she guided teams to success and inspired countless student-athletes.
Her influence extended well beyond athletics. Over a 37-year teaching career in the College of Education and Human Performance, Noble helped shape programs, launch degrees, and mentor generations of students with her student-first approach. Known for her humility, integrity, and leadership, she was twice named WVIAC Volleyball Coach of the Year and, in 2000, earned induction into the West Liberty State College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Today, her legacy lives on not only through the many students and athletes she touched but also through the Dr. Rhonda Noble Scholarship, established in her honor upon her retirement in 2023. Though she now enjoys life in Florida, traveling and volunteering, Noble's heart will always be on the Hilltop.

What are you doing now?
After 37 years of teaching at West Liberty University, I am enjoying retirement! I'm currently living in Florida, traveling, and volunteering.
Favorite memory of West Liberty?
So many to choose from! As an athlete, winning the Conference Championship in volleyball (1981) stands out, along with all of the amazing teammates and coaches I had the honor to meet, call my friends, and play alongside.
As a teacher and coach, I had the pleasure of working with so many wonderful students and athletes who will always have a special place in my heart.
Advice to current athletes or students?
Enjoy every second! These memories and friendships will be with you always.
What does it mean to be an alumna of West Liberty?
I have always been proud to be a Hilltopper! The people I met, the education I received, and all of the wonderful experiences and memories I have will always make West Liberty a special place to me.
Most influential coaches or teammates during your time here?
Jo Meissner (volleyball), Jane (Weller) Sackett (softball), Janet Pannett (basketball), and Elaine Blasko. When I was a student-athlete, Title IX was still in its infancy. If it weren't for these women leading the way, women's athletics at West Liberty would not be what it is today.
What does it mean to have a scholarship in your name?
It is one of the greatest honors of my career. Knowing that future Hilltoppers will be supported in their academic and athletic journeys through the Dr. Rhonda Noble Scholarship is truly humbling. I hope it inspires young women to lead with character, pursue their goals with passion, and always carry the pride of being a Hilltopper.
