Charleston, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's tennis team saw its 2025 season come to a close on Saturday, falling to top-seeded University of Charleston in the semifinal round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament.
The fourth-seeded Hilltoppers battled hard but ultimately dropped a 4-0 decision to the Golden Eagles, who are ranked No. 1 in the MEC and one of the top teams in the region.
Charleston claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots before the match at No. 1 was halted. In singles play, the Golden Eagles secured victories at the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 positions to clinch the match.
Despite the loss, the Hilltoppers' return to postseason play marked an important step forward for the program, which was reinstated this season after a one-year hiatus. Earning a spot in the MEC semifinals highlights the team's resilience and strong foundation as West Liberty looks to build momentum and continue developing in the years ahead.
