WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team will wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a home doubleheader against Salem University at the Hilltopper Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Hilltoppers enter the weekend with a 26-23 overall record and an 18-10 mark in Mountain East Conference play, currently in second place in the north division. The visiting Tigers come in at 24-25 on the season, including a 9-11 record on the road.
This will be the third and fourth meetings between the two teams this season. The programs split their doubleheader back on March 15, with Salem taking game one 2-0 before West Liberty bounced back for a 6-1 win in game two.
West Liberty heads into Saturday's matchup after splitting a doubleheader against Point Park on Thursday. The Hilltoppers edged out a 2-1 victory in the opener but dropped the nightcap 4-1 in extra innings. Salem also split their Thursday doubleheader at Wheeling, defeating the Cardinals 9-3 in game one before falling 4-3 in the second game.
Following Saturday's games, the Hilltoppers will turn their attention to postseason play, traveling to Salem, Va. for the Mountain East Conference Tournament, which begins Wednesday.
