WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team is set to compete in six games during their spring break trip to Florida.
The Hilltoppers will open play on Friday with a challenging doubleheader against No. 3-ranked University of Tampa at the Naimoli Family Softball Field. The Spartans enter the matchup with an impressive 17-1 record, including a dominant 14-1 mark at home. West Liberty, coming off a strong showing at last weekend's Regional Roundup at The Bridge Sports Complex, holds a 4-5 record after winning two of three games.
Leading the Hilltoppers into Florida, Emily Allen was named the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Softball Player of the Week after a stellar offensive performance. Allen tallied four hits, four runs, seven RBIs, a double, a two-run homer, and a grand slam in a standout week at the plate. On the mound, Kadence Pettit earned MEC Softball Pitcher of the Week honors after a dominant nine-inning performance, allowing just two hits and no runs while striking out four.
West Liberty continues its Florida slate on Saturday with a doubleheader against Eckerd College at the Turley Athletic Complex in St. Petersburg. The Tritons, currently 12-7, are riding a five-game winning streak.
The Hilltoppers will conclude their trip on Tuesday with a twin bill against St. Leo University at Mary Cannon Cabot Stadium. The Lions, boasting a 15-8 record, have won seven straight games heading into the matchup.
