West Liberty Softball Travels to Walsh for Midweek Doubleheader

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team hits the road Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader at Walsh, with first pitch set for 2 p.m.

The Hilltoppers enter the matchup riding momentum after a strong weekend, going 3-1 to improve to 10-2 in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play. They currently hold a one-game lead over Fairmont State atop the North Division standings. This marks a significant improvement from last season when WLU finished 11-17 in conference play.

West Liberty boasts one of the top offenses in the MEC, ranking third in batting average (.329), first in runs scored (78) and RBIs (72), second in hits (105) and on-base percentage (.405), and fourth in slugging percentage (.455).

Individually, Sydney Johnson leads the team with a .464 batting average, ranking ninth in the MEC, while Sara Simon follows closely at .452 (11th MEC). Simon and Isabella McKee are tied for the team lead in RBIs with 12, placing them third in the conference.

The Hilltoppers have also been dominant in the circle, posting the lowest team ERA in the MEC (2.22). They lead the league in runs allowed (29) and earned runs (25) while ranking second in walks allowed (25).

Kadence Pettit has been stellar, leading the MEC in ERA (1.59), innings pitched (44), and wins (6-0), while also ranking fifth in strikeouts (25). Madison Angus adds depth to the rotation, ranking ninth in the MEC with a 2.96 ERA.

Winners of eight of their last 10 games, the Hilltoppers will take on a Walsh team that has been strong at home, posting a 5-1 record this season.

West Liberty returns to conference play this weekend with road doubleheaders at Glenville State on Saturday and Concord on Sunday.
