3/19/2025 7:21:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GREENSBURG, Pa. – A late-game power surge from Seton Hill handed West Liberty a 3-0 loss in the opener of Wednesday's doubleheader.

After five scoreless innings, the Griffins broke through in the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back home runs. Anna Kalkowski opened the scoring with a solo shot to left center, and Brooke Cleland followed with a two-run blast down the left-field line, driving in Brooklyn Fukushima to put Seton Hill up 3-0.

West Liberty struggled offensively, managing just one hit in the game – a single from Sara Simon. The Hilltoppers had a few baserunners, drawing three walks, but couldn't capitalize against Seton Hill starter Shelby Telegdy, who went the distance with a one-hit shutout, striking out two.

Madison Angus took the loss despite a strong outing, allowing just three runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings without issuing a walk.

Game 2

West Liberty's early offensive push wasn't enough to overcome Seton Hill's consistent scoring, as the Hilltoppers fell 10-4 in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

West Liberty struck first in the opening inning when Alayna Cook scored on a bases-loaded walk to Sara Simon. However, Seton Hill responded immediately, plating three runs in the bottom of the first.

The Hilltoppers cut the deficit to 3-2 in the second when Jaden Conrad doubled to left center, scoring Sydney Johnson. But Seton Hill continued to apply pressure, adding two more runs in the bottom half of the inning.

West Liberty stayed in the fight, pushing across another run in the third on a fielder's choice by Johnson, but Seton Hill tacked on insurance runs in the third, sixth, and seventh innings to pull away.

Johnson was a bright spot for the Hilltoppers, scoring twice and collecting two hits. Conrad added a pair of RBIs, but West Liberty struggled to capitalize on opportunities, stranding 10 runners.

Ashlyn Tapman took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs (three earned) in 1.2 innings. Kadence Pettit provided relief but surrendered five runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings.

The Hilltoppers return to action Saturday for their home opener against West Virginia State with game one of the doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
