Toppers Pick Up First Win Split Doubleheader

Hilltoppers Rally Late for First Win of the Season -Game 1 

ROME, Ga. – The West Liberty University baseball team secured its first win of the season with an 8-5 comeback victory over Shorter University on Saturday.

Hunter White double put the Hilltoppers on the board in the top of the fourth, giving them a 1-0 lead. However, Shorter responded with two runs in the bottom half and added two more in the fifth to extend their advantage to 4-1.

West Liberty flipped the game in the seventh, exploding for seven runs on five hits to seize an 8-4 lead. The biggest moment came when Connor Huzicka launched a three-run homer to center field.

Shorter managed to add a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Noah Neely earned the win after allowing just one hit and two runs over two innings. Brady Harman shut the door in the final frame to pick up the save.

    Hilltoppers Fall in Nail-Biter to Shorter in Game Two

    ROME, Ga. – The West Liberty University baseball team battled to the final out but fell just short, dropping a 9-8 heartbreaker to Shorter University on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.

    Late-Game Drama

    Trailing 8-6 heading into the final frame, the Hilltoppers clawed back to tie the game at 8 with a fielder's choice RBI and a passed ball. However, Shorter delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning to walk it off.

  • 1st Inning: Will Balgo got the Hilltoppers on the board early with an RBI single.

  • 5th Inning: A Hunter White sacrifice fly trimmed the deficit to 5-3.
