University Heights, Ohio – Alec Cook and Breagan Pearson led the way for West Liberty University wrestling on Sunday, each securing championship victories at the John Carroll Open, the Hilltoppers' final regular-season event.

Cook Dominates at 165 lbs.

Cook captured the 165 lb. Navy Division title in dominant fashion, winning the final by technical fall (17-2). His path to the championship included a pair of major decision victories, winning 14-3 and 12-1.

Pearson Wins All-West Liberty Final at 174 lbs.

In the 174 lb. Gold Division, it was an all-West Liberty championship match as Pearson faced teammate Gabe Blissenbach. Pearson secured the title via forfeit.

Hilltoppers Shine Across Weight Classes

• In the 197 lb. Gold Division, Brandon Johnson claimed third place, winning by forfeit over teammate Luke Justice.

• Four Hilltoppers reached the championship finals, finishing as runners-up:

  • Matt Englehardt (141 lb. Blue Division)

  • Bryson Neidgh (149 lb. Navy Division)

  • Chase Schepis (157 lb. Navy Division)

  • Christian Chavez (184 lb. Blue Division)

• Shawn Young earned a third-place finish in the 149 lb. Blue Division.
