West Liberty Women’s Basketball Set for Road Clash at Fairmont State

West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's basketball team will look to bounce back as they travel to Fairmont State on Saturday for a Mountain East Conference showdown at Joe Retton Arena.

Last Time Out

The Hilltoppers (8-15, 6-10 MEC) are coming off a hard-fought 87-79 loss to Frostburg State on Wednesday. Bailee Smith led the way with 23 points and six rebounds, while Karli Anker added 19 points.

Fairmont State (19-4, 13-3 MEC) currently sits atop the MEC standings and won the first meeting between the two teams this season, rolling to an 87-59 victory at West Liberty on Jan. 11. In that matchup, the Falcons had a well-balanced offensive attack with six players scoring in double figures, while Smith (17), Jenna Riccardo (13), and Olivia Baker (12) led the way for WLU.

The Hilltoppers will be looking for their first road win at Fairmont since Jan. 14, 2023.

Scouting the Matchup

  • Fairmont State ranks second in the MEC in scoring (78.3 ppg) and leads the league in margin of victory (+15.5 ppg).

  • West Liberty's Bailee Smith leads the MEC in three-point percentage (38.6%), is second in total threes (59) and threes per game (2.6), and ranks fifth in scoring (15.6 ppg). Jenna Riccardo also ranks 10th in scoring (12.9 ppg).

  • Fairmont's Leslie Huffman is fourth in the league in scoring (17.0 ppg), followed by Alyssa DeAngelo (6th, 15.3 ppg) and Jalen Gibbs (8th, 13.5 ppg).
