WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University men's basketball team delivered a dominant performance Wednesday night, cruising to a 101–65 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan inside the ASRC.
West Liberty (7-1, 3-0 MEC) relied on relentless defensive pressure and exceptional depth to pull away, forcing 30 turnovers that led to 43 points off miscues, while the Hilltopper bench accounted for an impressive 67 points. Wesleyan (0-10, 0-4 MEC) found some success in the paint with 38 points but was unable to keep pace with West Liberty's balanced scoring attack.
The Hilltoppers opened the game with quick scores from Peter Lattos and Max Hurray, but Wesleyan briefly seized momentum with a 12–6 run. West Liberty responded decisively, reclaiming the lead behind a 12–4 surge, highlighted by a three-pointer from Aiden Davis. The home team closed the half in commanding fashion, finishing on a 12–0 run fueled by contributions from Hayden Abdullah and Cameron Williams to take a 52–29 advantage into the break.
West Liberty picked up right where it left off in the second half, as Abdullah's dunk and a layup by Myles Montgomery extended the lead early. The Hilltoppers continued to rotate fresh bodies into the lineup, maintaining pressure on both ends of the floor. Hurray and Williams knocked down timely three-pointers, while the defense remained disruptive, preventing any sustained run by the Bobcats.
Montgomery led all scorers with 17 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the field and adding four steals. Abdullah finished with 15 points and six rebounds, along with a block and two steals. Williams chipped in 14 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Jamie Muldowney added nine points and led the team with eight rebounds, while also recording two assists and a block.
West Liberty will now head west for a road trip to Las Vegas, in the DII Holiday Hoops Classic, where the Hilltoppers will face Angelo State University on Saturday, followed by a matchup with Lubbock Christian University (Texas) on Sunday.
