WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — West Liberty continued its dominance over Shepherd University on Saturday afternoon, earning an 89–81 victory inside the ASRC to extend its winning streak over the Rams to 30 consecutive games. The Hilltoppers erupted for 51 second-half points, turning a narrow 38–35 halftime edge into a convincing non-conference win.
West Liberty's depth proved decisive, as the Hilltoppers generated 42 bench points and scored 13 points off Shepherd's 12 turnovers. While the Rams stayed within reach thanks to 20 made free throws, they struggled to match West Liberty's pace and pressure.
The Hilltoppers struck early, sparked by Jamie Muldowney's three-pointer just 36 seconds into the game. West Liberty's defensive activity—highlighted by eight steals in the opening half—kept the pressure on Shepherd and created transition opportunities. A late first-half surge, capped by an Aiden Davis corner three in the final minute, sent WLU into the locker room with a 38–35 advantage.
West Liberty built on that momentum immediately after the break. Davis knocked down another three-pointer at 19:20, this time set up by Dante Spadafora, igniting a fast-paced stretch that saw Terrance Pankey Jr. and Myles Montgomery finish in transition. Shepherd continued to counter with trips to the free-throw line, but the Hilltoppers' balanced scoring and strong defensive rebounding preserved their grip on the lead.
The Hilltoppers outscored the Rams 51–46 in the second half to secure the win and improve to 3–1 on the season.
