Hilltoppers Head to Ursuline for Midweek Matchup

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's basketball team hits the road for the first time on Wednesday, traveling to Pepper Pike, Ohio, for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff at Ursuline.

The Hilltoppers (1-1) enter the matchup coming off a strong opening week in which they averaged 78.5 points per game while shooting an efficient 47.1% from the field. West Liberty has also been dangerous from beyond the arc, knocking down 7.0 threes per game at a 35% clip.

Junior guard Bailee Smith has led the early charge, ranking among the Mountain East Conference's top scorers at 26.5 points per game while shooting 52.9% from the floor and 46.7% from three. Fellow guard Anna Lucarelli has added 20.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, giving WLU one of the region's most productive backcourts.

West Liberty's balanced attack also features Ana-Isabel Andersson (8.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg), Jameka Brungard (8.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg), and Dria Parker (5.5 ppg). Defensively, the Hilltoppers are averaging 10.5 steals per game, forcing opponents into 16 turnovers per contest.

Ursuline (0–2) is still seeking its first win of the season after a challenging opening slate, falling to Truman State and Quincy. The Arrows are averaging 62.0 points per game and shooting 39.4% from the field but have struggled on the glass with a -10.5 rebound margin.

Kailey Minch leads Ursuline with 15.5 points per game, while Ajia Schreffler adds 11.0 points and a team-best 6.0 rebounds per outing. The Arrows have been solid from long range (7.5 made threes per game) but have been hurt by 21.5 turnovers per game.

Wednesday marks the first meeting between the teams since 2018. West Liberty holds a 2–1 advantage in the brief series history, including a 72–68 win in the most recent matchup.
