WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Glenville State University on Wednesday afternoon at the West Family Athletic Complex.
The Pioneers struck first in the 28th minute when Solares Solano found the back of the net, but the Hilltoppers answered quickly. Frida Lundberg buried a penalty kick in the 35th minute to tie the match at 1-1, marking her third goal of the season.
Glenville State regained momentum just before halftime, as Giselle Hamilton scored in the 42nd minute to give the visitors a 2-1 lead at the break.
The Pioneers continued to press early in the second half, with Sofia Jalaksova extending the margin in the 59th minute. Despite several strong pushes forward — including shots from Maya Taggart, Lundberg, and Abigail Barki — West Liberty couldn't close the gap. Glenville State sealed the match with a late goal from Veronica Foster-Toledano in the 84th minute.
Lundberg led the Hilltoppers with four shots (two on goal) to go along with her goal, while Cianna Butera turned in another solid performance in net, tallying nine saves against 15 shots.
West Liberty (1-9-0, 0-7-0 MEC) will look to bounce back on the road next week when they travel to Institute, W.Va., to face West Virginia State Sunday at 1 p.m.
