Hilltoppers Travel to Point Park for Midweek MEC Clash

10/7/2025 5:15:00 PM

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University men's soccer team hits the road Wednesday night for a key Mountain East Conference matchup at Point Park. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.

The Hilltoppers (3-4-3, 2-3-2 MEC) enter the midweek contest looking to build momentum after a dominant 4-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. Four different players found the back of the net for West Liberty in that victory, highlighted by goals from Alex Anderson, Lachlan Quate, Ethan Nethery, and Leandre Tyssandier.

West Liberty has relied on a balanced attack this season, with five players tied for the team lead with two goals apiece. Quate also ranks among the league's top playmakers, pacing the Hilltoppers with three assists. Defensively, goalkeepers Emil Vernhamn and Shai'ya Henry have combined for 52 saves and three shutouts while limiting opponents to 1.7 goals per match.

Point Park (4-5, 4-3 MEC) returns home after a pair of road losses, most recently a 5-0 setback at Thomas More. Despite the recent skid, the Pioneers remain unbeaten at Highmark Stadium, where they've picked up conference wins over Frostburg State and West Virginia Wesleyan.

The two teams met earlier this season in West Liberty on Sept. 24, when Point Park struck twice in the closing minutes to escape with a 2-0 win. The Hilltoppers will look to flip the script this time as they aim to climb back into the thick of the MEC standings heading into the season's final stretch.
