WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — Senior defender
Jasper Newton has been named West Liberty University's Hilltopper of the Week after scoring the Hilltoppers' lone goal in their recent matchup at Point Park.
A native of Stockport, England, Newton found the back of the net in the 31st minute against the Pioneers on Oct. 21, finishing a scoring opportunity assisted by teammate
Kevin Teather. The goal gave West Liberty an early lead, although Point Park rallied for a 2-1 victory.
Newton's goal was his third of the season, bringing his season totals to eight points on three goals and two assists. The senior has appeared in 15 matches, making 14 starts, while recording 21 shots, including eight on goal.
At 6-foot-1, Newton has been a regular presence on the Hilltoppers' back line while also contributing offensively. His ability to get involved in the attack has added another dimension to West Liberty's lineup throughout the season.
West Liberty returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 28, when the Hilltoppers host Wheeling for senior day in their final regular-season match. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the West Family Athletic Complex.
