WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University men's soccer team hits the road Wednesday afternoon for a 3 p.m. Mountain East Conference match at West Virginia Wesleyan in Buckhannon.

The Hilltoppers (4-6-3, 3-5-2 MEC) look to bounce back after a narrow 2-1 home loss to Frostburg State on Saturday. West Liberty has shown steady improvement throughout October, highlighted by recent wins over Davis & Elkins and Wesleyan earlier this month.

In the first meeting between the two teams on October 5, the Hilltoppers earned a 4-0 victory behind a balanced attack that saw four different goal scorers — Alex Anderson, Lachlan Quate, Ethan Nethery, and Leandre Tyssandier — find the back of the net.

Offensively, Travis Scandalis leads West Liberty with three goals, while Leyton Collier and Quate share the team lead in assists with three apiece. The Hilltoppers have scored 17 goals on 146 shots this season, averaging just over 11 attempts per game.

In goal, Emil Vernhamn has been a steady presence, posting a 1.24 goals-against average and an .839 save percentage with two shutouts in five starts.

West Virginia Wesleyan (3-8-2, 2-7-1 MEC) is coming off a 5-0 loss at Concord on Saturday. The Bobcats average 0.69 goals per game, led by Casey Bunker with four goals and an assist.

West Liberty enters the match sixth in the MEC standings with 11 points, while Wesleyan sits seventh with seven. The Hilltoppers will be looking to sweep the season series for the second straight year and build momentum heading into the final stretch of conference play.
